Cheap Business Marketing- The Beginning

Marketing, defined by Webster as "the process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service used to be a costly endeavor. Today however, the tables have changed, largely in part to the Internet. And while you can still spend a ton of money on marketing efforts for your business, I'm here to tell you that it's not necessary to do so.

In the coming day, weeks, and years, you'll be amazed at all the creative ways to market your business for little to no money, which if you're a start up or a small business, will be a real eye opener. After all, a penny saved is a penny earned, or in your case, kept out of another's hands.

A few years back in 1999 I happened upon this great little site called eBay. It wasn't much back then, but as you now know, it's grown exponentially. Back then it was easy to post and get those on the site to see your product, but today, that's no longer the case. In 2005, the year my eBay business really took off, I was having to literally trip someone to get a buyer's attention. I was getting sells, but so were a ton of other people. Then in 2008 when the lots of people started getting laid off, the number of users selling on eBay became daunting. No longer was I faced with just trying to get a little attention, I was now seeing more sellers than buyers, all working hard to under-cut my prices and drive my profits into the ground. So after "crying over spilled milk" so to say, I started doing lots of research, reading everything possible about how to get ahead of the pack without doing anything dishonest. Around the same time online marketing companies started popping up, really hitting their stride in late 2009. And if I wanted to compete, all my research told me that I'd have to dish out hundreds monthly to do so. I drew the line here, mostly because I was dumb and spent every penny I earned and had nothing to support a marketing budget. So back to the books, magazines, blogs, websites, books on mp3, etc. I went.

When I emerged from my learning cocoon, I leap forward and started to work. I have notebooks full of ideas, both for new start ups and on how to market them. Within my words I found answers on providing cheap to no cost ways to market myself and my brands. I've made it my mission over the past few years to help others bring their marketing cost down and their business successes up. It's to this hard work and countless hours spent reading that I bring to you "Cheap Business Marketing".

Communication

Key to many things in life, communication can both make and break a good marketing campaign. The lack thereof can bring on confusion and the inability for the end audience to comprehend the message. Without that interchange, a sense of silence is sure to overcome even the best-laid plan.

So, what's the solution? How do you make sure the message you are trying to convey is being interpreted and not lost in translation? Personally, I often find myself doing things the old way - without technology. I write up a plan, like with a pen and paper, then I verbally run it by friends and family members, sometimes even reaching out to strangers before moving forward with anything. Once my solution is set and solidified, only then will I move forward. I suggest you ask someone to review your project and give their honest feedback too prior to releasing anything to the general public. Communication, the one thing that can make an amazing marking plan or just turn it into a discombobulated effo…
